Nature's Choice Deck

Chemical-Free Thermally Modified Wood

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is Thermally modified wood the same as getting the Heat Treated (HT) Stamp?
A: No, they are not the same thing.  While Nature's Choice deck boards are resistant to rot, decay, and insects the process used to thermally modify wood does not currently count for, or replace, the HT stamp.

Q: Where can I use Nature's Choice wood?
A: Nature's Choice can be used outside or inside.  It has no chemicals and it is resistant to rot, decay, termites, and other insects.  It is basically the ideal "treated" wood.

Q: Where is Nature's Choice Available?
A: Nature's Choice is available throughout the continental US.  Shipping charges may apply depending upon your location.  Call us or contact us online for a quote.

Q: It's treated, but uses no chemicals.  Huh?
A: Nature's Choice is thermally modified.  In short, the wood is heated to just below its flashpoint.  It remains in the heat process long enough to change it cellular structure.  We are essentially making the wood undesirable or inedible for termites and fungus.  Learn more about thermally modified wood.

Q: What kind of screws or fasteners can I use?
A: ANY KIND.  You can use regular deck screws, nails, or hidden fastener systems.  Nature's Choice can be treated just like regular wood although we do recommend pre-drilling to prevent splitting and gouges.

Q: Can I stain it?
A: Yes., just like regular wood.  In fact, staining your deck is a great practice to increase the longevity of any deck.
